Before & After

Binghamton, NY - Cellulose Insulation in Attic

This Binghamton, NY customer had done a lot of research prior to his appointment with us. He was very concerned with ice damming on the roof on the south side of the home. The attic had layers of fiberglass batts in the attic flat, and the walls and rim joists lacked any insulation.

We proposed to remove all of the existing insulation from the attic flat, air seal and do an open blow of cellulose insulation, as well as dense pack the slopes and insulate the rim joists. We began the project by removing all of the fiberglass batts that were in the attic flat and air sealed. This meant sealing around top plates, wire penetrations, light fixtures and small gaps and cracks. We then dense packed the slopes of the attic walls with our Cellulose insulation before doing an open blow in the attic flat. 17 inches of our cellulose insulation was blown into the attic space. We then air sealed and insulated the scuttle access to the attic before spray foaming the rim joists with 3 inches of our Closed Cell Spray Foam to air seal and insulate.
