The perimeter of the floor framing system along the exterior of the house is called the Rim Joist. Air leakage comes from the joints and gaps between all the framing members. Air Sealing and Insulating the rim joist is something that contractors hardly ever do. Basement ceiling insulation, especially fiberglass batts, doesn't stop the flow of air, cold in the winter and hot in the summer, into your home. We suggest that two part expanding spray foam be installed on the rim joist and over the sill plate to seal all air leaks from the outside and insulate this important area of your home. Foam It Insulation's spray foam has a high insulation value per inch of R7, and because it expands, it seals all cracks and gaps and joints where air from the outside enters your home.

In addition to doing the crawlspace encapsulation in this home, we also spray foamed the rim joist in the part of the home that had a basement area. This will also make the upstairs more insulated and make the overall home more comfortable.
